2013 BRAMPTON FESTIVAL
We we invited to join members of the large re-enactment group Britannia to attend the Stepping Stones Festival in Brampton, Cumbria. This was organised by Maddy Prior, an ex-member of Fairport Convention and renowned singer.
Ours was a mostly Late Roman contingent, joined by Andy and Sarah who brough textiles, archery, woodworking and combat equipment. Our Britannia hosts were Mark, Sarah, Blayne and May. Many of us had met before at the Chester Roman Festival. |
This was a chilled out and relaxing event, with a steady stream of interested visitors, folk music spilling out of windows and a front-row seat for the climax of the festival, Maddy Prior's folk-opera Agrippa!!
John and Paul left on the Sunday morning to visit the western part of Hadrian's Wall. First we stopped off at Banks East Turret, with fantastic views south. Then we moved on to Birdoswald, with its Late Roman connections we felt right at home dressed as we were in Late Roman military kit. After breakfast we left for home.
